Pool Builders Indianapolis: Cost of fiberglass and vinyl liner inground pools – 2022

Revised for 2022   So if you are considering an inground pool in Indiana, you need to know what an in ground pool costs in Indianapolis and Central Indiana.  You need to know a lot more— but cost is an important part of the pool buying decision.  Obviously, the price depends on a few things, including site conditions, but with that said, most pools that Perma Pools sells fall within a range and there are some generalizations that can be made. These are estimates only for your convenience so don’t hold us to them.

Fiberglass Inground Pool Package Prices.  We start with a pool package that generally ranges from $55,000 – $90,000, depending on size and design. The high end of that range is a large 16×40 fiberglass 8’ deep pool and the low end of that range is a 10 x 20 sport pool.  Midsize fiberglass pools will generally be in the $62,000-72,000 range.  These packages include a full installation, 3’ of regular concrete with a concrete coping, a $2,500 electric allowance, a $400 permit allowance, an upgrade sanitation system and a number of other items.  To review a comprehensive list of the features included with these pools, check here.

Vinyl Liner Inground Pool Package Prices. We start with a pool package that generally ranges from $55,000-70,000, depending on size and design. The high end of that range is a very large exotic designed deep pool complete with a sunledge and bench options!  A large 20 x 40 rectangle with steel stairs would cost about $64,000.  A small vinyl liner pool might cost about $55,000 while midsize vinyl liner pools might be in the $55-62,000 range.  These packages include a full installation, 3’ of regular concrete, a $2,500 electric allowance and an $400 permit allowance, an upgrade sanitation system,  a premium grade pool kit and a number of other items.  To review a comprehensive list of the features included with these pools, check here.

Gunite Inground Pool Prices.  Gunite pools?  Add 20-30% more depending on the quality and size of what you buy.

Cost of Automatic Pool Cover in Indiana. Indiana requires that you surround a pool with a fence OR install an automatic pool cover over your pool as a safety device.  Automatic pool covers cost in the $10-$13,000 range, depending on pool size, track type and other options.  A basic automatic cover for a 14×30 pool is about $10,500 and undertracks would add about $2,900.   There are more upgrades available of course such as a polymer box instead of wood to mitigate against the risk of rot, matched and welded webbing for longer wear of your cover and an assortment of upgrade lids to the auto cover box.

Pool Heater Prices.  Gas heaters range from  $3,100-$4,000 depending on the size of the heater (which depends on the size of your pool and whether you get an automatic cover).  Plus there is the cost of your gas hook up.  Another type of pool heater is the electric heat pump which will generally adds about $1,000-2,000 more to your heater cost but which might save you money over the long haul.

Pool Concrete Costs; Other Types of Decking Costs.  Regular gray concrete flatwork costs about $10/SF depending on quantity and prep and including 3″ of fill material.  Additional fill material costs more. Generally, about double that cost for stamped concrete or add $2.75/SF more for exposed aggregate concrete.  Moving the concrete around to difficult places might involve a charge also as it costs to pump concrete or move it around in a wheelbarrow.  Oh….there is another type of decking that costs more.  For pavers and stone, generally expect to pay $18/SF-$30/SF.

WHEW!  Is that all?  The above describes our in ground pool packages and the key, what I would call, Tier 1 options.  Even if you stop there, you also have the costs of possible additional electric, excess permit costs, costs associated with difficult site conditions, possible broken sidewalk/driveway costs and possible other additional costs and options.  Our salesperson can estimate these costs for you when giving you an estimate and can help develop strategies to minimize or eliminate these costs.

SO THAT’S IT RIGHT?   Well maybe.  There is a world of Tier 2 options including water features, special lighting, special sanitation devices, BB/VB sets, pool cleaners, spas, winter covers, custom pool features, pool furniture, tiki bars, outdoor kitchens and don’t forget landscaping etc.

So what does a midsize pool cost??  So when all is said and done….

For a 16×32, 6′ deep, vinyl liner inground pool with corner stairs, auto cover, heater (including a standard gas hook up), and 600 SF of gray concrete, you would be very close to $67,000 inclusive of discounts and taxes.

For the same options and a 16×33 fiberglass poolyou would be very close to $76,000.

These sample prices are meant to be  very close to our new and revised 2022 actual pricing.    Hope that helps!
